Routeless for plumbing companies

Answer the burst-pipe call before the next company does.

Plumbing emergencies are decided in minutes and planned work is decided on trust. Routeless builds the site, the intake, and the follow-up so you capture both — the 11pm call and the repipe someone has been putting off for a year.

We asked three AI assistants to recommend a plumber 90 times.

A homeowner standing in water does not browse. They ask one question and call the first credible name that comes back. So we ran the experiment: 6 hiring questions across 5 metros — Las Vegas, NV, Tampa, FL, Denver, CO, Phoenix, AZ, Austin, TX — put to 3 assistants on July 26, 2026. Every answer was saved. Here is what came back.

228 different plumbing companies named across 90 answers
12/30 questions where no two assistants named a single business in common
22.1% of the 865 sources cited were directories, not company websites

The assistants are already naming names

Asked who to hire, these assistants did not deflect to a directory or lecture the buyer about getting three quotes. They answered with specific companies, by name, in nearly every response — 228 different plumbing companies across the 90 answers we collected. Whatever else that means, it settles the question of whether this surface matters yet: a recommendation is being made to your buyers today, and somebody's name is in it.

The assistants do not agree with each other

There is no single "AI answer" to optimise for. Comparing the businesses each assistant named for the same question in the same city, 12 of 30 comparisons produced no overlap at all — three assistants, three completely different shortlists. Across the whole set they named 228 different plumbing companies. Being recommended by one tells you very little about the others.

Who the assistants actually named

These are the plumbing companies recommended more than once in each city during the run. They are not our clients and this is not a ranking of quality — it is a record of who the assistants surfaced on July 26, 2026. If you are in one of these markets and not on this list, that is the gap worth closing.

  • Las Vegas, NV Pure Plumbing & Air, Roto-Rooter, Active Plumbing
  • Phoenix, AZ Parker & Sons, Roto-Rooter
  • Tampa, FL EVERYDAYPLUMBER.com, Olin Plumbing, Roto-Rooter
  • Denver, CO Blue Sky Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electric, Roto-Rooter, Brothers Plumbing, Heating & Electric
  • Austin, TX Reliant Plumbing, Roto-Rooter

Where the recommendations actually come from

All three assistants searched the web before answering and cited what they read, so we counted every source. These are the sites doing the actual work of deciding which businesses get mentioned:

  • rotorooter.com61
  • reddit.com36
  • expertise.com28
  • goettl.com22
  • angi.com20
  • consumeraffairs.com17
  • bbb.org16
  • serviceagent.ai16
  • yelp.com15
  • mrrooter.com14

That is a roughly one-in-five split: directories set the shortlist often enough to matter, but most of what the assistants read and quoted came from companies' own websites. Both halves of the work pay here, and neglecting either one is visible in the answers.

Exactly what we asked

Published so the study can be checked rather than taken on trust. Each question was put to all 3 assistants in all 5 cities:

  • Who is the best plumber in [city]? commercial
  • A pipe burst under my sink in [city] and water is going everywhere. Which local plumber should I call right now? situational
  • Who is the best company for whole-house repiping in [city]? commercial
  • My water heater failed in [city] and I need it replaced this week. Which local plumbing company should I hire? situational
  • Which plumbing company in [city] has the best customer reviews? commercial
  • Which plumber in [city] offers 24-hour emergency service? commercial

Method. 6 questions × 5 metros × 3 assistants = 90 answers, collected July 26, 2026 from ChatGPT (gpt-5-mini), Google Gemini (gemini-flash-latest), Perplexity (sonar). Every assistant was queried with web search enabled, because that is what a buyer's app does. Asked the same questions with search turned off, these models answer from memory and refuse to name almost anyone — a measurement of the model, not of your market. Business names were resolved across spelling variants within each metro before counting. Assistants are non-deterministic, so these figures describe one collection run on one date rather than a permanent state of the world — which is why we re-run it instead of quoting it forever. Want the same measurement for your own business? The free AI visibility report runs it against your market.

Why it matters

Plumbing gets two kinds of customer, and most sites are built for neither.

Emergencies do not wait

A burst pipe is a decision made in under five minutes. If the number is hard to find or the call goes unanswered, the job is gone.

Planned work needs a different pitch

A repipe, a water heater, or a sewer line is researched for weeks. That buyer wants pricing ranges, process, and warranty — not an emergency banner.

After-hours calls disappear

Nights and weekends are when pipes fail and when most companies stop capturing anything at all.

Reviews decide it

Plumbing is chosen on recent, specific reviews more than almost any trade, and most companies have no system for asking.

How intake works

From water on the floor to a plumber on the way.

The first question has to be urgency, because everything downstream changes based on the answer — including whether a form is the right thing to show at all.

01

Homeowner arrives

Often mid-emergency, often on a phone, with the water still running.

02

Problem type

Leak, clog, water heater, sewer, or planned work. Emergencies get the phone, not a form.

03

Urgency & access

Shutoff status, property type, and access details the tech needs before dispatch.

04

Dispatch summary

A brief with the details already gathered, so nobody re-asks them on the doorstep.

05

Scheduled & synced

Booked, pushed to your CRM, and queued for a review request afterward.

What we build

Two intake paths, one system behind them.

Emergency and planned work are separated at the front door and rejoined in the same pipeline, so the urgent call is never slowed down by a form built for the considered one.

Plumbing company website

  • Service pages for drains, heaters, repipes, and sewer
  • Pricing ranges and process transparency
  • Licence, insurance, and warranty proof
  • Call-first path for emergencies

Emergency & planned intake

  • Urgency routing from the first question
  • Shutoff, access, and property questions
  • Photo capture for planned work quotes
  • Dispatcher-ready job summaries

Reviews & follow-up

  • Review-generation workflow after each job
  • Structured follow-up on open quotes
  • Instant alerts on new requests
  • Leads pushed into your CRM automatically

After-hours search visibility

  • Radar baseline scan and weekly tracking
  • Hours and profile built for 2am searches
  • Review velocity where plumbing buyers actually look
  • Dated, sourced answer receipts you can audit
Evidence you can inspect

Live production work, not a portfolio of mockups.

Both are businesses that live on the phone and on trust built before anyone arrives. The tree service is the closer comparison — a local trade with decades of work that the old site simply did not show.

Local trade

Anderson Tree Service

Thirty-five years of crews in Merced, invisible on the old website. Rebuilt around what homeowners actually check — license number, insurance, damage guarantee, real job-site photos — with a quote path on every page.

Assessment funnel

The Exit Upgrade

A hard service to sell from a brochure, so the site leads with proof instead: a fifteen-question readiness score returned instantly, and a full sample report published openly before anyone spends a dollar.

Pricing

Three scopes. One connected acquisition system.

Projects start at $7,500. The core Visibility & Intake engagement averages about $15,000 because it combines the website with the strategy, content, attribution, intake, and post-launch work that make it commercially useful.

  • Website & Conversion Foundation from $7,500
  • Visibility & Intake System — recommended $12,500–$17,500
  • Market Authority System $20,000–$35,000+

Full scope for each tier is on the services page. After launch, Website Care runs $350–$500/month, Visibility Management runs $1,250–$1,750/month, and Growth Management runs $2,500–$4,000/month + media. Monthly work is optional. Standalone SEO and AI-visibility work starts at $500.

FAQ

Questions plumbing companies ask.

Usually not. If someone selects an active leak, the right response is a phone number and a tap-to-call button, not eight fields. The form exists for the work that can wait.

A review request goes out after the job closes, at the point where the customer is most likely to write something specific. We build the workflow and the profile it points at — we do not write, buy, or filter reviews.

We recommend it for planned work. Homeowners researching a repipe or a water heater are trying to find out whether they can afford it, and the companies that answer that question get the call. What you publish is your decision.

Yes. Calls, forms, and ad clicks are tracked to the same place, so you can see which pages and which sources actually produce booked work rather than traffic.

Eric leads the project directly and remains your technical point of contact from strategy and design through development, launch, and support.
