Stripe integration development

Routeless implements Stripe payment and billing workflows for custom SaaS products, marketplaces, and operational software. Verified work includes Checkout Sessions, subscriptions, Stripe Connect OAuth, signed webhooks, event deduplication, and reconciliation from Stripe's current object state. Payment details stay at Stripe's boundary while the application stores the identifiers and business state needed to recover.

Evidence boundary

What the implementation proves.

Routeless products contain working Stripe Checkout, Connect OAuth, subscription billing, signed webhook, deduplication, and reconciliation flows.

The evidence supports custom Stripe engineering. It does not establish Stripe partnership status, PCI certification, revenue volume, or a live connected account for every product named.

Verified capabilities

  • Stripe Checkout Sessions and hosted payment links
  • Subscription checkout, billing state, and customer portals
  • Stripe Connect OAuth and connected-account requests
  • Signed webhook ingestion, event deduplication, and object reconciliation
Implemented workflows

How data moves through the integration.

Workflow 01

Create a hosted Stripe Checkout flow

The application creates a Checkout Session with internal record identifiers in metadata, then stores the Stripe session and customer references needed to confirm the result.

Evidence: Verified across Routeless Platform, Routeless Go, Analytics Engineering, and other product payment services.

Workflow 02

Connect a business-owned Stripe account

A business authorizes Stripe Connect through OAuth. The callback validates expiring state, exchanges the code server-side, and stores the connected account and sealed credentials for later requests.

Evidence: Verified in the Routeless Platform Stripe Connect implementation and integration tests.

Workflow 03

Reconcile subscription and payment events

Webhook handlers verify the Stripe signature, claim the event ID once, and fetch current subscription or payment state instead of trusting delivery order. Failed claims can be reclaimed after a bounded interval.

Evidence: Verified in Routeless Go billing webhooks and reconciliation tests.

Authentication and operations

Access, secrets, and recovery are part of the build.

Authentication model

Platform keys and webhook secrets remain server-side. Stripe Connect uses OAuth for business-owned accounts, and test and live credentials remain separate.

Credential handling

Stripe keys and webhook secrets are available only to server processes. Connected businesses are isolated from one another, and test credentials cannot be used for live transactions.

Failure behavior

Stripe errors become explicit payment failures rather than ambiguous success states. Webhook processing tolerates duplicate or delayed events and verifies account ownership before changing billing state.

Vendor and implementation constraints

Limits that affect the scope.

  • Webhook delivery is not an ordered queueHandlers must tolerate duplicate and out-of-order events. The verified billing implementation deduplicates event IDs and reconciles from the current Stripe object.
  • Test and live modes are separate systemsKeys, webhook secrets, price IDs, customers, and connected accounts are mode-specific. Deployment checks must prevent one mode's identifiers from entering the other.
  • Stripe does not define application entitlementStripe reports payment and subscription state. The product still needs explicit rules for account access, grace periods, cancellation, refunds, and operator overrides.

Stripe integration FAQ

Questions that change the implementation.

Yes. The work usually includes products and prices, Checkout, customer and subscription records, webhook reconciliation, access rules, cancellation behavior, and a billing portal. Existing account and entitlement models determine the migration scope.

Stripe Connect is appropriate when the platform connects or pays separate businesses rather than charging through one merchant account. Account ownership, onboarding, platform fees, refunds, and regulatory responsibilities must be defined before implementation.

Handlers verify the signature, store the Stripe event ID, and claim it idempotently. For subscription state, the application can fetch the current Stripe object so duplicate or out-of-order deliveries do not replay an obsolete transition.

The verified flows use Stripe-hosted collection or Stripe client components so card details remain at Stripe's boundary. Routeless applications store Stripe identifiers and application state, not raw card numbers.
