Methodology: Routeless audited 35 business websites in Burlington, NC (2026Q3 benchmark). Homepage signals (CMS, structured data, contact paths, analytics) were collected from each site's live homepage; performance figures are Google PageSpeed Insights mobile lab metrics for the 35 sites that completed a run. Businesses were sampled across industries from public listings and licensing registries; national chains were excluded. Read Google's PageSpeed Insights methodology and download the anonymized Burlington benchmark summary. We dropped 5 Burlington sites we couldn't reach, and 35 of the 35 finished a full PageSpeed run. Sampled businesses include Carter Law Firm, PLLC, Alamance Family Dentistry, Alliance Medical Associates, A Southern Plumber, Associated Plumbing Company, Brad Buchanan Attorney At Law PLLC, Haymore Family Dentistry. Collected August 25, 2026. Results describe the 35 sampled businesses, not every business in Burlington. We re-run the benchmark, so treat these numbers as a snapshot from that date.

Buyer guide

What to look for in a Burlington web design company.

Past work

Portfolio work you can inspect

Ask for recent, named projects you can open, and case studies that say what was done and what changed. A live site you can click through tells you more than a wall of client logos.

Speed

Test the agency's own website

Speed is one part of the decision, and anyone can test an agency's own site. The table above shows the same mobile score for every provider.

Specialty

Match the team to the build

A branding studio, a WordPress shop, an ecommerce team, and a software developer each solve different problems. Pick the team that has built the kind of site you need.

Ownership

Know who does the work

Ask who plans, designs, builds, launches, and maintains your site. Get what's included in writing, and ask how they handle changes to price or timeline.

Agency Intelligence methodology · version 2026-10

How we evaluated Burlington web design agencies.

Scores count only what we could verify in public. If an agency doesn't publish case studies, reviews, pricing, or other proof, it gets no points for that part of the score. That doesn't mean its client work is poor.

  • 25Portfolio and demonstrated work
  • 20Public case-study evidence
  • 15Technical website quality
  • 15Verifiable public reputation
  • 10Service depth
  • 10Burlington market relevance
  • 5Transparency

Choosing which agencies to review is a separate step from ranking them. For that step we look at local relevance, brand searches, how often an agency appears across independent search results, how much public evidence it has, reputation, and a mix of specialties. Every agency that makes the list is scored on the same 100-point Agency Quality rubric, and the 9 ranked agencies are ordered by that total alone. Routeless publishes this research. It's listed as our pick and isn't ranked, so no score is adjusted in its favor. Its remote setup and lack of third-party reviews are scored as found. Technical scores come from each audit, and audits and source facts are dated September 3, 2026.

What we build

A website you can run yourself, with the tools around it.

17.1% of the Burlington sites we audited run on a DIY builder, and those owners usually pay separately for plugins, forms, and hosting. Routeless Go puts the website, the lead inbox, analytics, and content publishing in one account, and sets up the search basics for you.

Routeless Go

Three designs, then one place to run the site

Go drafts your pages from your business details and shows them in three designs. After launch you change the site by clicking or asking, get every inquiry in one inbox, and see where visitors come from.

Search & AI visibility

Found by Google and by assistants

Page titles, descriptions, structured data, and a sitemap are set up on every Go website. 37.1% of the Burlington sites we audited publish no structured data at all.

Search and AI assistants

People also ask AI assistants who to hire.

When someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI results who to hire in Burlington, the answer draws on what those systems can read: your pages, your structured data, and business details that match across the web. Structured data makes that information easier for search engines and AI systems to interpret and verify. 37.1% of the 35 Burlington sites we tested publish none.

We also check your Google Business Profile and the listings AI assistants compare you against. Every Go website comes with structured data and a sitemap, and we publish our research on how AI assistants recommend local businesses.

We scored 10 providers on the same 100-point rubric, using only what we could verify in public, and ordered the 9 ranked agencies by that total alone.
